Erika Mushorn’s death news and obituary
Erika S. Mushorn of Troy tragically passed away at the young age of 31 on December 27th, 2023 at Samaritan Hospital after suffering a fatal heart attack.
Erika was born on March 15, 1992 in Albany to parents Wade C. Mushorn and Wendy L. Mushorn. She was one of three daughters – her sisters being Teresa L. (Christopher) Phillips and April M. (George) Mushorn. Erika’s family also includes her paternal grandmother Joan Mushorn and uncle Scott Mushorn. She also leaves behind her father and mother-in-law, Harry and Tammy Matala, cousin Justin S. Mushorn, aunt Susan E. (Bob) Clarke, and several nieces and nephews.
Erika worked hard to provide for her family. She previously held positions at Walmart as a custom services manager for several years before moving on to work at Hewett’s Garden Center in Halfmoon. Most recently, Erika dedicated herself to being a full-time homemaker, mother, and wife – selflessly taking care of her five young children.
Her beloved husband of 9 years Derek R. Matala survives her, along with their five children – Derek Jr. (age 8), Nathan (age 7), Dominick (age 5), Nina (age 3), and Grace (age 1). She loved her children deeply and the joy they brought into her life. She had aspirations of someday opening her own custom floral design business.
Friends and family are invited to the Catricala Funeral Home located at 1597 Route 9 in Clifton Park on Friday, January 5th 2024 from 4-7 PM to gather, share memories, and mourn the profound loss of Erika.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations which will help cover funeral expenses and support Erika’s grieving husband and young children during this extremely difficult time.
Erika lived life to the fullest with an adventurous spirit, a creative mind, and a huge, loving heart. She will be sorely missed by all those blessed to have known her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
